OWNER AND PRIMARY EDUCATOR
Hi, I am Bill Stewart and I am the owner of WPS Reptiles in Kenosha, WI. My love for reptiles began as a child, with a fascination for dinosaurs, and grew into a full-blown obsession after my father showed me a garter snake at age 5. I was enthralled by reptiles ever since. I would ride my bike to local ponds to fish and chase frogs, turtles, and snakes well into my teenage years. I bought my first pet rat snake at age 15 with one of my first paychecks from my first job and got into reptile keeping since then. My parents and siblings were always very supportive (or at least tolerant) of my reptile keeping. Since those early days, I have worked with over a thousand different animals, representing well over 250 different and unique species.
It was in my late teenage years that I gravitated to sharing my reptile obsession with others. I enjoyed teaching others. I remember my late high school and early college years bringing a small group of reptiles to local elementary schools to teach about adaptations, camouflage, and why these animals deserve to be loved and appreciated.
Fast forward to early 2017, I was working as a consultant for Central Garden & Pet’s Zilla brand and needed to form an LLC…. WPS Reptiles LLC was officially born! This allowed me to travel across the country to meet other reptile keepers, share my love and passion, and really experience what the reptile hobby can offer. I still work at Zilla as a Brand Consultant, as well as an Assistant to the Research and Development team that creates and develops products to aid in successful reptile husbandry. I also continued to educate others during this time, as a volunteer, Board Member, president, and most recently as the current Executive Director of the Madison Area Herpetological Society.
In 2020, with the help of my now-wife Sarah, I formally re-branded WPS Reptiles LLC as a reptile education business. With a small assortment of reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, I travel across southeast WI educating and entertaining children of all ages, as well as adults, with meaningful hands-on interactions that build confidence and curiosity in others and help to promote the message that reptiles and amphibians are incredible examples of resilience, adaptation, and evolution, and are integral within the ecosystems that they live in.
